IOM established its first office in the region in Majuro in May 2009. The opening of the sub-regional Head Office in Pohnpei followed a few months later. The FSM has been a member state since December 2011 and the RMI acceded to membership on 26 November, 2013.

Information Technology and Communication (ITC) Assistant-Chuuk

Position: Information Technology and Communication (ITC) Assistant (SVN/FM/2016/09-03)

Duty Station: IOM Chuuk Sub-Office, Federated States of Micronesia

Classification: General Service Staff, Grade 5, USD 843.17/month net

Type of Appointment: Special Short Term, nine months with possibility of Extension

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission for Micronesia and under the direct supervision of the Head of Sub-Office and in close coordination with ITC Assistant in Pohnpei, the incumbent will be responsible for implementing of Information Technology strategy to address the operational and information requirements of IOM Sub-Office in Chuuk.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Installation and maintenance of the LAN (hubs, switches, wires, etc.);
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting of the LAN (performance, capacity and security);
  • Installation of WAN components (routers, modems, firewalls etc.)
  • Monitoring access to the WAN (performance and connection to remote locations).
  • In close collaboration with ITC Helpdesk, installation, configuring and operating the server i.e. Windows 2003 server/NT 4.0 (Network access, MS-Exchange 2003 server/5.5);
  • Daily monitoring of the system – disk space, events log;
  • Performing and controlling daily backups
  • Administering security access to files and system, checking security log files;
  • Creation of users NT accounts;
  • Creating/administering local Email accounts
  • Installing, maintaining and monitoring of third party and applications software;
  • Administering security access to files and system, checking security log files;
  • In coordination with ITC Helpdesk, negotiating and implementing Internet access according to check list provided (to be provided by ITC Helpdesk);
  • Implementing security walls against intrusion (firewalls, routers) and non-authorized outgoing access (e.g. radios and other consuming resources);
  • Troubleshooting and fixing of defects;
  • Installing upgrading of Office suite and other applications.
  • Providing first level assistance, advise and support to local end-user; IOM’s application software, PAS 2000,MiMOSA , MOSAIC, PRISM, Intranet portal
  • Providing IT training to end-users and field mission IT Assistants.
  • Installing, configuring, maintaining other IT devices (printers, scanners, all telecommunication & office equipment PABX including intercom, copiers, VHF/HF Radios & satellite phones and other modern office equipments.
  • Liaising with IT services at IT HQ and ITC Helpdesk;
  • Perform other duties as may be required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or computer-related major;
  • High school degree with 05 years' experience, bachelor's degree or equivalent or higher with 03 year experience;
  • Experience in Network Performance Tuning, LAN Knowledge, Network Design and Implementation, Knowledge of Cisco network hardware and software.


Fluency in English.
